On December 31, 2020, Adobe ended support for its Flash software. Later, around January, 12, 2021, web browsers began blocking Flash. This meant that Flash content became unusable outside of legacy browsers.
One area hit hard by this change was the Flash game community. When the end support of Flash was first announced, Flash game developers began looking for ways to preserve their games. While some developers turned to BlueMaxima’s Flashpoint, others expanded on the mobile games front. The game development company Flipline Studios made the latter choice
Flipline Studios is the creator of the Papa’s Games series. In Papa’s Games, players run a restaurant. This involves taking customers’ orders, preparing food, and in some cases decorating the restaurant. Each game has a particular restaurant theme, such as a pizzeria, a sandwich shop, or a donut shop.
Papa’s Games were available on Flipline’s website, as well as many other Flash game websites. Players who own a tablet or a smartphone can purchase Papa’s Games from the Apple App Store or GooglePlay. Flipline has branded these games Papa’s Games To Go! The games are quite popular. In fact, Papa’s Freezeria To Go! came in 15th place for iOS Top Paid Games of 2020.
On December 8, 2020, Flipline Studios announced their latest game: Papa’s Mocharia To Go! Papa’s Mocharia is the 15th Papa’s Game To Go! app and the first one to be mobile exclusive. In Papa’s Mocharia, players run a coffee shop that also serves cannoli, an Italian pastry. Papa’s Mocharia, which is also the name of the restaurant, is located in New Pepperton. New Pepperton is a large city and the restaurant is located in the downtown area.
Players can choose to play as one of three characters: Allan, Akari, or they can create their own custom worker. Allan and Akari were the winners of Papa’s Next Chefs Tournament. This was a contest Flipline hosted that allowed fans to choose the chefs for Papa’s Mocharia. Each chef has a similar uniform, with different variations. The uniform consists of a white dress shirt, brown slacks, tan sneakers, a colored apron, and a brown beanie with a colored visor. Allan’s apron is olive green and so is his visor. Akari has a yellow apron and an orange visor. The custom worker wears a brown apron and has a brown visor.

A Papa’s Game would be nothing without it customers. So far, Flipline has announced two new customers. They are Kenton and Pally. Kenton was the winner of Kingsley’s Customerpalooza 2020. Like Papa’s Next Chefs Tournament, Kingsley’s Customerpalooza allowed fans to vote for a new customer. Pally was first featured in Papa Louie Pals, another Flipline Studios game. According to a Flipline Studios’s blog post, Pally “has a different outfit for every month of the year”. This means she will change her outfit periodically throughout the game.
Many of the other Papa’s Games feature holidays. These are periods of times where special ingredients become available. Players unlock new holidays by leveling up in-game. Flipline has hinted that holidays will include different cannoli shells. The featured holiday in the blog post discussing holidays is Thanksgiving. For this reason some have speculated that Thanksgiving will be the first holiday players will unlock in the game.
Flipline has also announced a new feature that will be coming to Papa’s Mocharia. In each Papa’s Game, players receive a score for how well they did on an order. This score is broken down into sections. Each section is based on a stage in the food preparation process. Up until now, the score a player receives for an order has mostly been a mystery. Players are left to speculate why they received the score they did. Papa’s Mocharia changes that. Now when a player has questions as to why they received the score they did, they can pause the game, go to the Help Section, and view the Score Details Report. This report will explain why points were docked from an order.
So far, we have covered the new features of Papa’s Mocharia, but there is still much left to cover. In our next article we will discuss the different stations in Papa’s Mocharia.
