Final Fantasy VII is about to extend its lore and more with these two upcoming mobile titles (Android, iOS) announced by Square Enix in Sony’s State of Play Livestream.
Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier
Serving as a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix decides to make their name on their very first battle royale game inside the Final Fantasy VII universe.
Based on the trailer above, magic, summons and familiar locations will be included. Gameplay appears to be real time based (as to no one’s surprise in a battle royale game) toggling between third person movement and aim down sight mechanics.
Even with the bizarre choice of trying to make an imprint into the battle royale scene, this could really end up being a great title to welcome newcomers to the genre. The title is anticipated to release in 2021.
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis
If multiplayer battle royale games doesn’t appeal to you, Square Enix has also announced a more single player centric title to be released in 2022.
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis compiles the entire timeline (Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII) of its universe into one game. This will be a letter to all Final Fantasy VII fans and ones trying to play through Part One of the Remake for the first time.
Expect to see upgraded crisp visuals bringing back PS1 Classics nostalgia combined with action gameplay in battle. Story will be told using a chapter-based system.
